The Orange City School District is proud of the dozens of talented students across campus who submitted nearly 60 entries in the annual PTA-sponsored Reflections Program! Each year students in Pre-K through 12th grade are invited to submit projects that are reflective of a pre-selected theme and represent the various arts. This year's theme was "Accepting Imperfection.”
At the ceremony held November 20th in the OHS auditorium, students in four grade-level divisions (Primary Pre-K thru 2nd, Intermediate 3rd-5th, Middle School 6th-8th, and High School 9th-12th) were recognized for their projects which included Visual Arts, Literature, Music Composition, Film, Photography, and Dance Choreography. Congratulations to the 15 students whose 17 works of art were selected for first-place honors and will move on to the State Competition in Columbus. Those students include: Noah Schechter (Literature/Primary and Photography/Primary), Kyra Rodenborn (Literature/Intermediate), Alessa Dicioccio (Literature/Middle School and Visual Arts/Middle School), Tatev Sargsyan (Literature/High School), Avery Schechter (Photography/Intermediate), Cecilia Cirino (Photography/Middle School), Samantha Speer (Photography/High School), Sylvia Goshe (Music/Middle School), Lucy Tutskey (Dance Choreography/Primary), Abbey Decembly (Dance Choreography/Intermediate), Henry Saltzman (Film/Primary), Yale Campbell (Film/Intermediate), Harper Miller (Visual Arts/Primary), Ellie Miller (Visual Arts/Intermediate), and Mane’ Sargsyan (Visual Arts/High School). The first-place winners at the state level will move on to the national competition.
Local judges included Maria DiDonato, Mary Slater, Elizabeth Glorioso, and Amy Lewandowski. The event was emceed by Staci Adelman Vincent (OHS ’83) and coordinated by PTA Reflections Committee Co-Chairs Nirupama Mulherkar, and Maria Hanley with gratitude to and assistance from PTA presidents Kerry Kertesz (OEPTA) and Lisel Ashby (OHSPTA) along with OEPTA Vice President Hallie Goldstein and PTA member Kim Sutton.
Certificates, ribbons, first place medals and treats were presented courtesy of the PTA, and guests had the opportunity to enjoy each artistic work on display and via a beautiful slideshow created by the Reflections Co-Chairs. The projects will be on display at the Cuyahoga County Public Library Orange Branch in the coming weeks. We are proud of all of our creative students who entered this year’s contest.
Start thinking now about next year’s theme… “I Belong”! And good luck to our amazing Orange Schools students in the State Reflections Competition!
