Posted Date: 02/08/2024

Congratulations to the 4th and 5th grade students in Katie Grau’s and Jean Metzger’s classes from the 2022-23 school year who were selected as the FIRST PLACE prize winners in the “Ancient Adventures—History Hunters” Young Writers USA contest. The entries were judged as the best set received from more than 2000 stories from student writers all across the country. Moreland Hills Elementary was selected as the top school. The now 5th and 6th graders were surprised with the announcement!

Students were tasked with taking their excitement of history and mixing it with their imaginations to create a mini-saga or story told in less than 100 words. Students wrote about various topics of interest like famous explorers, ancient kingdoms, and famous scientists or mathematicians. The engaging assignment was not only fun for the creative students…but rewarding in many ways! The teachers are proudly displaying the Young Writers Award of Excellence Trophy in their roo m.
