Dear Orange Families,
The health and safety of our students, staff and community are at the forefront of our decision making as we navigate through providing your children with a quality educational experience during the ongoing pandemic. Our intent was to offer the Hybrid in-person/remote learning model beginning Monday, October 19th. Due to Cuyahoga County’s move today (10/15) to Level 3 - Red on the Ohio Department of Health Advisory System, I regret to inform you that we will need to postpone our plans and remain 100% Full Remote learning next week. Our Orange Schools families, along with our teachers, support staff, administrators and community, have worked hard in preparation for the in-person return of students. We were looking forward to having our wonderful students grace the hallways once again! However, we will continue to follow the back-to-school advice shared by health experts from the Cuyahoga County Board of Health (CCBH). Again, on October 19th, we will continue with our 100% Full Remote learning plan where students will remain with their same teachers and follow the schedules that they have used since the beginning of the school year. This includes Moreland Hills School students who will retain the same teachers next week that they had up until yesterday, Wednesday, October 14th.
On July 20th, when we emerged as Red on the alert system, we had already been underway with phases of sports as well as OCER camps. Therefore, we continued with sports and OCER childcare, even as we implemented our Full Remote Learning model. Now, we find ourselves Red again, yet these programs have continued. OCER is serving less than 100 kids, and while this is not crowding PPLC and is very small, the impact is big providing opportunities for dozens of community members to have childcare for them to return to work. Likewise, our Fall Sports have gone without incidents of COVID-19, and teams are left with tournament play next week. Football finishes up this weekend with Lutheran West. At this point, I am recommending the status quo, including continuing with the above.
Looking ahead, new endeavors like Winter Sports and any future transition to Hybrid instruction will need to be figured out as we move ahead. I ask for our parents and community to continue to be patient as we navigate in these fluid times. We will continue to monitor the situation and keep you informed. In the meantime, please stay safe.
