OHS Seniors Recognized by National Merit Scholarship Program!

Congratulations to Orange High School seniors Stephen Daly and Steven Fellinger who were named "Semifinalists" and Benjamin Boardman and Alexander Rosenblatt who were named "Commended Students" in the 2021 National Merit Scholarship Program!

Only 16-thousand high school seniors across the United States were named semifinalists. Daly and Fellinger now have the opportunity to compete for the 7600 scholarships worth more than $30 million that will be awarded in the spring. More than 1.5 million juniors in 21-thousand high schools across the country initially enter the Scholarship Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) and by meeting published program entry/participation requirements. Those chosen for Semifinalist recognition are among the top scorers in the areas of critical reading, mathematics, and writing skills in the country. To be considered for selection as a Finalist, Semifinalists must submit a detailed scholarship application detailing each student's academic record, participation in school and community activities, demonstrated leadership abilities, employment, and honors and awards received.  Every finalist competes for one of 2500 National Merit $2500 Scholarships that are awarded on a state-representational basis.   

Boardman and Rosenblatt will each receive a Letter of Commendation from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation which conducts the program each year. They are among only 34,000 students throughout the nation who are being recognized for exceptional academic promise, having placed among the top 50,000 scorers of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2021 competition by taking the 2019 PSAT.
