1st place trophy

Congratulations to the OHS Robotics Team "1787 - The Flying Circuits" which took FIRST place at the Miami Valley Regional this past weekend! Out of 60 teams, the team was ranked 3rd after qualification rounds and was picked first by the number two seeded alliance. The OHS Flying Circuits, along with their two alliance partners, (Team 340 - GRR from Rochester, New York and Team 3266 - Robots-R-Us from Eaton, OH) went undefeated in the playoffs to bring home the 1st Place Trophy! The team has now qualified for the World Championship for the second year in a row.

In addition to this victory, the team also took home the Industrial Design Award sponsored by General Motors. This award is given to teams with the following attributes: "The design is elegant and efficient (simple/executable) and practical. The entire machine reflects a system design approach, i.e., the overall machine design addresses the many functional systems that must operate together. Reliability and maintainability are considered in the design. The entire machine design, or the detailed process used to develop the design, is worthy of this recognition, and not just a single component."

The students participating in this competition included:  Xavier Arnold, Jared Bernon, Ashayla Coward, Ian Criste, Eleanor Fleming, Court Freund, Aaron Friedlaner, Sarah Friedlander, Noah Geis, Isaiah Jackson, Josh Joseph, Nikki Kolure, Sean Lipton, Joey Mangan, Halina Michener, Erik Nilsson, Daniel Pukanski, Zada Ramsey, Ben Rosenberg, Matan Rosenberg, Maris Usis, Alex White, Jordan Willis, and Elliott Yankelevich.

The team is under the direction of advisors Ryan McMonigle and Jon Rice with assistance from Zack Vadnais, Jake Marchewitz (OHS '19).  The World Championship will be held in Detroit April 29th through May 2nd. This is the second time The Flying Circuits has been invited to the World Championship in the team's 15 year history.

Good luck at Worlds, Team 1787 - The Flying Circuits!
