12th consecutive yearFor the 12th consecutive year, Orange High School has been invited to the State Competition with two of its Mock Trial Teams moving on to the Ohio Center for Law-Related Education State Competition in Columbus after outstanding showings in their two trials at the Cuyahoga County Regional Competition in February. The 2020 Ohio Mock Trial case asks students to examine the First Amendment right to free speech. The case focuses on if/when it is permissible for a school to restrict student speech. Students take on the roles of both attorneys and witnesses and argue both sides of the case before a panel of judges.

It was an outstanding showing by the students in all five Orange High School Mock Trial teams who competed on at the Regional Tournament with two OHS Teams, all freshman team Metallica and all senior team Zeppelin, advancing to the State Finals. Only four teams were selected to represent Cuyahoga County at the State Finals.

OHS also had 10 students who received individual awards at the Regional Tournament. Winning “Best Attorney Awards” were Theresa Achkar, Katie Brateanu, Kymille Giles-Watkins, Marissa Goldschmidt and Jackson Leb. Winning “Best Witness Awards” were Elana Rubanenko, Taylor Silverstein, Lyla Tye, Ellie Uher and Zoey Yelsky.
