Budget Bill Provision Affecting Orange City Schools VETOED

By now many of you are aware of a proposed amendment to State Law that was inserted into House Bill 166, the state biennial budget bill. We are pleased to inform you that the amendment was vetoed by the Governor this morning. The amendment, in effect, would have cut approximately $6 million per year from tax dollars allocated to the Orange City School District. This is approximately 15% of the annual property tax revenue to the District.

Thanks in large measure to the many state legislators, especially State Rep. Juanita Brent (D-12), mayors Richard Bain, Ben Holbert, Kathy Mulcahy, and Susan Renda, our Board of Education, and the community members who immediately went to work lobbying against this amendment. Likewise, we are appreciative of Governor DeWine’s decision to line-item veto this provision. 

We are grateful to our engaged, supportive community for your concern and successful efforts, and we look forward to moving ahead, together, as a united school community to ensure that we are able to continue to offer the highest quality education to our students.
