Congratulations to Orange High School teacher LeShun “Ship” Collins who will receive the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Award by the National Education Association at its Human and Civil Rights Awards Program in Portland, Oregon on July 2, 2025, because of his impactful leadership in civil rights and education. He has dedicated more than 30 years to inspiring and mentoring students, especially young Black men. His work promotes equity, empowerment, and social justice. He founded the OHS Male Minority Leadership Group mentoring program that inspires youth to embrace and recognize their potential. It allowed young men to learn they can take control their own destiny and positively impact their communities in a safe space. He is also a leader in the Ohio Education Association’s Minority Training and Women’s Leadership Program.
